Ministerial Conference on Renewable Energy in a Bio-based Economy

Ministers, State Secretaries, Deputy Ministers and Representatives from Member States of the Central European Initiative (CEI), competent for Science and Technology, Energy, Environment, Agriculture, Economic Development, together with High Officials from the European Commission and Stakeholders from Industry, Universities and other Research Institutions, attended in Trieste the Conference on “Renewable Energy in a Bio-based Economy: The Option of Next Generation Biofuels”.

Vierte Österreichische Wasserstoff-Konferenz

Am 27. September fand in Graz die von JOANNEUM RESEARCH und dem HyCentA veranstaltete „4. Österreichische Wasserstoff-Konferenz“ statt. Knapp 50 Teilnehmer informierten sich über aktuelle Projekte, den Stand der Technik und die Perspektiven von Wasserstoff im Energie- und Mobilitätsektor in Europa, Deutschland und Österreich.

Energie aus Maisspindeln

Die Nutzung von Maisspindeln - als Koppel- bzw. Abfallprodukt der Körnermaisproduktion - gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung bei der Energiegewinnung. Die Grundlagen dafür, (u. a. Anforderungen sowie Brennstoffspezifikationen und -klassen) sind in den europäischen ÖNORMEN EN 14961-1 und EN 15234-1 geregelt.

The EU's oil import bill was 210 billion € in 2010, transport is to 95% dependent on fossil fuels. If we do not address this oil dependence, people’s ability to travel and the costs of goods transport could be severely impacted with dire consequences on the overall economy. The European Union has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions; a reduction of 60% by 2050 is required from the transport sector.

Biofuel mandates like those in the European Union and Unites States should be abolished to ease pressure on food prices, a top Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development official said yesterday (19 September). Meanwhile, industrialists condemned the European Commission's proposal to limit biofuels, calling it "a masterpiece of irresponsible policymaking".
