BIOSIRE - Sustainable Transport in Tourism Regions

BIOSIRE aims to establish a shift towards bio-diesel and electric propulsion for fleets, ships and special vehicles in tourist areas in Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Croatia and Austria. Furthermore BIOSIRE formulates recommendations for other tourist regions and provides the opportunity for these regions to be directly involved in events. National events are organized in Poland and Croatia to reach out to regional actors.

The largest steps forward have been made in the collection of used cooking oils through expanding the number of supplying hotels and restaurants and through finding new suppliers like schools and households. With the introduction of biodiesel in the local fleet more problems than expected have been identified because of specific economic problems in some regions and legal constraints in others. At the same time advances in electro-mobility achieved in France.
